MAKING A PIG DIFFERENCE
Curly Tails is so much more than just a pig sanctuary; it goes way beyond providing a safe haven for pigs and providing the support and therapy they need in the hope that one day, they will again feel safe in a home and in the company of people.
With a happy and content pig population, Curly Tails also gets to fulfil an equally important role as a Wellbeing Centre for us.
Jane and her team of volunteers provide essential and harmonious interactions between humans and animals. With up to 10,000 children and adults coming through the gates every year, significant and visible improvements are made to the mental health, well-being, confidence, and happiness they get just from spending time at the centre.
Now, for many of these children, learning outside of the classroom can be a game changer, and for those struggling to build social bonds, creating those bonds with animals can be the first crucial step to improving their social interaction skills.
ECL has witnessed first-hand the fantastic support offered by this charity. Having found a resident pig (Boris the pig, now known as Bear) in our Clipstone Park Development, the team at Clipstone went in search of help to re-home him. After contacting the RSCPA, they were advised that the only thing they could do for Bear was put him to sleep. That wasn’t an outcome the team were willing to accept, and just in the nick of time, when the outlook was looking bleak for Bear, Curly Tails came to the rescue. Jane and her team spent a couple of days on-site at Clipstone, gradually coaxing Bear onto their trailer so that they could take him to his new home at Curly Tails.
Solely through this unlightly encounter with Curly Tails did we get the opportunity to visit the Sanctuary and Bear and get a sense of the beautiful serine space Jane and her team have created. It’s only when you visit that you truly feel the tranquillity of the space and comprehend how kids who would typically be branded ‘problem children’ prone to cause havoc in a classroom could finally feel at peace and be guided.
As a charity, the survival of this unique centre is only assured with the support of businesses and the public. Hence, we’re delighted to announce that Curly Tails Pig Sanctuary will be added to our chosen charities for 2024.
In a world that is fast-paced, busy and sometimes overwhelming, it is so important to remember the value of interacting with all that surrounds us. Curly Tails offers us a unique opportunity to do just that, and we are pleased we can support them in doing so.
