It’s a haul for ECL’s graduate Programme

ECL’s Graduate Programme

ECL's Graduate Programme

ECL’s investment in its graduate program has resulted in the qualification of three newly chartered surveyors and one technical QS.

The success of Liam Doran, James Brennan, Kyle Ingram and Harry Thomas will further contribute to the company’s growth in the Midlands and strengthen its teams in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

Liam graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying from Kingston University. James and Kyle also graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying from the University of Westminster, whilst Harry graduated from his Quantity Surveying Technician Level 4 programme at the same university.

The process to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor is known to be complex, with an average pass rate of just 70%. Each 5-year course has a rigorous qualification process, including a minimum of two years of experience, written submissions, a CPD record, an ethics course, and a 60-minute interview with a panel of RICS assessors.

This demonstrates the huge accomplishment these guys have achieved in graduating, so let’s take a moment to appreciate the journey these individuals have been on. As Liam put it, “This milestone represents years of late nights in the library with the lads and some weekends. The combination of hands-on experience and academic learning has been a rewarding challenge.”

Harry agreed, saying, “Balancing university and work has been challenging, but I focused on completing all my coursework by dedicating my days at university, working on it at night, and using most of my weekends for studying.”

James also commented, “My colleagues who had already completed the course have been incredibly supportive. They provided guidance through assignments and modules they had already done. Additionally, Joe and Rudi helped me gain a greater understanding of CAD usage, contributing to my overall learning experience. “ It’s a great reminder of all the hard work and valuable experiences shared.

Marcus Knight, line manager for Kyle and James, added,“Kyles’s growth and confidence have surged over the past four years, and he has become an indispensable asset to the team. James has demonstrated a steep learning curve across all commercial processes, especially in estimating and surveying.”

With 3 years of further education on the horizon for Harry, who mentioned, ‘I’m looking forward to getting stuck into my level 6 apprenticeship, which starts at the end of September at Westminster Uni.’ and a QS degree now firmly under Kyle, Liam, and James’s belt, these guys are all, as Liam quoted,

“Eager to adapt my learning into my day-to-day role”.

Kyle shared his aspirations, saying, ‘I’m looking forward to putting into practice the modern construction techniques I have acquired. I’ve already integrated new methods into my work, and I am excited to continue leveraging this knowledge.’”

Steve Tysoe, managing director of ECL, expressed:

“We’re delighted that Liam, Kyle, Harry and James have qualified and want to extend our warmest congratulations to them. With our recent expansion into Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, the addition of these four talented quantity surveyors will undoubtedly fortify our operations in these areas. We’re incredibly proud of the support we offer our graduate trainees, and it’s great to see Liam, Kyle, Harry, and James have reaped the rewards.

With the future looking bright for all the lads at ECL, Liam capped it off by saying, “I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say I’m extremely grateful for the support and opportunities afforded to us during our degree apprenticeship with ECL.”

Level 6 for Harry

ECL's Graduate QS

Having just graduated from his Quantity Surveying Technician Level 4 programme, Harry’s not resting on his laurels; he’s diving headfirst into his Construction QS Degree Level 6 at the University of Westminster this September.

We all know he’s got the dedication and passion needed to excel, and with the full support from everyone here at ECL, there’s no doubt he’ll absolutely smash it.

Good luck, Harry!
