How to apply for or update your CSCS card
How to apply for or update your CSCS card

At the height of the pandemic, Coronavirus (COVID-19) had impacted the CSCS’s ability to issue new cards and renew cards before expiry; this was primarily due to applicants not being able to sit the CITB Health, Safety and Environmental test, as the pandemic resulted in the temporary closure of test centres.

During this time, the CSCS extended a grace period for card renewals whilst dealing with the backlog of test submissions.

Gladly, the CSCS has now resolved any issues with applicants being able to sit their tests, and test centres are now back to running at full capacity. However, while construction workers should no longer face delays in obtaining cards, many workers aren’t aware that the extended renewal period has now been removed and that they must ensure their CSCS card is up to date.

1. Make sure you know which CSCS Card, Training and Qualifications you need.

The type of work you do, your qualifications, or your professional body membership will determine which type of CSCS card you should apply for and which test you need to pass. If you’re unsure which CSCS card to apply for and which tests you need to pass, you can simply visit the ‘Card Finder’ site on this link www.cscsonline.uk.com/card-finder.

If you have changed occupation since your existing CSCS card was issued, you’ll need to visit the ‘Card Finder’ site to help you decide which CSCS card to apply for and which Health, safety and environment test you need to pass.

The card finder online tool is really straightforward to use. All you need to do is simply enter your occupation or qualification and follow the screen steps. Alternatively, if you are a member of a professional body, enter their name or your level of membership.

2. Get qualified – pass all the health & safety tests needed for your profession.

To renew a CSCS card or apply for a brand new card, you must prove you have the appropriate training and qualifications required to carry out your job.

You’ll also need to make sure you have passed the CITB Health Safety and Environment test. If you haven’t done the test yet, you’ll need to go online to www.citb.co.uk/courses-and-qualifications/health-safety-and-environment-hse-test-and-cards/

to take the test. The HS&E test cost has increased to £22.50 as from April 1st, 2022.

Don’t forget to keep an electronic copy of all your certifications and qualifications, including your CITB test and your CITB testing ID.

Renewing your CSCS Card: It’s important to note that your CSCS card can only be renewed six months before and up to six months after the expiry date printed on the card.

3. Create a CSCS online account.

If you already have an account, all you need to do is log into your account (Cscsonline.Uk.Com/login) and apply for your renewal.

If you don’t have an account, then just create a CSCS online Account by visiting the ‘Apply for cards’ page on the CSCS website. www.cscs.uk.com/applying-for-cards

Important note: Labourer, Academically Qualified Person (AQP) and Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) cards cannot be renewed. Therefore, holders of these cards must apply for a new card rather than apply to renew an existing card. Further information on these cards can be found on the “new, not renew” page (https://www.cscs.uk.com/newnotrenew
